The Gophers men’s basketball team improved to 2-0 in its Italian trip with a 108-68 win over Tuscan Select in Florence on Thursday.
Four Gophers scored in double figures, led by freshmen Isaiah Ihnen and Tre’ Williams, who each had 19 points. Ihnen, who appeared to tweak his ankle before leaving Minnesota last week, didn’t score in the 84-79 win over Stella Azzurra in Rome on Tuesday.
Point guard Marcus Carr added 12 points, and forward Jarvis Omersa had 11.
“The best part was we got to play a lot of the young guys and rest some of the guys who are going to play a lot of minutes,” head coach Richard Pitino said in a news release. “A lot of those guys haven’t played well together. I thought it as a good confidence builder for Isaiah, since he hasn’t played with our guys for a while. So that will hopefully help them build confidence. Play those young guys and see them get a lot of reps.”
Pitino didn’t like the U’s defense on Tuesday, and they bounced back Thursday, forcing 28 turnovers. Carr had four steals, Ihnen and Payton Willis each had three.
The Gophers final game of the trip will be against Como Select on Saturday.
